Owning an automotive repair and maintenance shop has been a life-long dream of David Blanch. Love for automotives runs in the Blanch family. His father is a mechanic and would occasionally take him to work when he was a child. Since then, he always knew he wanted to work on cars. It is more than a career for him; it is his sheer passion. David graduated at the top of his class from Medford Vocational High School in Medford, Massachusetts in 1997, where he was enrolled in Automotive Program for four years. Upon graduating, he received a monetary award to purchase tools and help jumpstart his career. This award planted a seed for his dream venture.
During the last 20 years, David has gained a wealth of knowledge, experience and confidence in all areas of the automotive repair and maintenance industry while working at small garages, established franchisees, and dealerships like Valvoline, The Caddy Shack, Mike’s Automotive (Somerville MA), Iverson Ford (Billerica MA) to name a few. In 2003, he joined a new Mercedes-Benz dealership in Burlington MA. Being part of the core team at the Mercedes-Benz during its formative years provided him with an opportunity to experience what a ‘start-up’ world looked like. This journey also reinvigorated his dream of someday opening his own auto repair shop.
At the Mercedes-Benz dealership, he received extensive training and education to keep him at the top of his game and exposed him to the state-of-art technology. He received the Seventh Player Award, which is an award given to an employee who exceeds expectations and goes above and beyond in their field. He was also awarded an all-expense paid trip from Mercedes-Benz to the 2013 MLB All Star game in New York City. He was selected from dozens of Mercedes-Benz employees nationwide to take part in a video produced by Mercedes-Benz titled “A New Breed of MBUSA Service Technician.”
David knocked on the RISBDC’s doors in July 2016 and since has been working with RISBDC business counselor Amit Basnet. He came to the RISBDC with big dreams but no clue as to where to start. Amit helped him navigate all aspects of business planning. From the early days of market research, making sense of expenses & revenue projections and getting together investment funds to finally applying for auto repair license, it has been an arduous but rewarding journey. David was awarded the license to operate in December 2016 and has been successfully building his clientele. Quality, integrity and customer satisfaction is what David promises and delivers to his clients. He plans to do a formal ribbon cutting ceremony in early Spring 2017.
