Success with entrepreneurship requires essential ingredients, like hard work and good planning. Add patience and a sprinkle of luck to increase your chances of success. Aldo Abreu has been tested and has finally made an impact with his pet grooming business Chibi’s Choice.
Searching for just the right location was a major test, spanning two and a half years. Luckily, the third try was the charm for Abreu. The current location, at 141 Newport Avenue in East Providence, lies on a heavily traveled avenue and features a large space for expanding.
The other ingredients have come from Abreu’s experience and good nature. His training as a professional certified pet groomer from a big box retailer gave him the credibility and early experience to offer the services his customers were looking for, and a background in marketing and graphic design helped with publicity.
But Abreu’s charming and outgoing personality made all the difference. That special, intangible touch of knowing how to handle his customers—and their owners—make him a trusted resource in the pet-owning community.
Customers overwhelmingly give Chibi’s Choice five-star reviews for their customer service, grooming skill, and ability to help even anxious dogs feel calm during their visit. Abreu expects his unique intake area, systematic booking strategy, loyalty program, and organized grooming system will help him capitalize on the 4.5% growth rate projected for the industry.
The RISBDC helped Abreu get a loan for Chibi’s Choice through the City of East Providence. Of the RISBDC, Abreu said, “they are knowledgeable, patient, dedicated, diligent and informative. Starting a business has many layers; the RISBDC answered all my questions and concerns in a timely and detailed way that gave us confidence and direction. We couldn’t do it without them.”
