A good formula for success includes strong academics combined with years of experience in a field with opportunity. Josh Holt, founder and CEO of Orbit Motion, has methodically built his company on this foundation.

With a computer engineering degree (URI ’07) in hand Josh opted to work for a small technical company where his efforts could impact the company’s future. Josh focused on the custom design and retrofitting of electronic systems for industries with a need for lean manufacturing. With the potential to expand these applications, Josh bought the company in 2014. Quickly the company built a reputation for delivering quality workmanship. Clients include global market leaders Schneider Electric, PepsiCo and Nestle.

With primary sales channels into the food, beverage packaging and pharmaceutical industries Orbit has expanded its core business to include parts and field service work. The client list continues to expand as well including Unilever, Glaxo Smith Kline, Nova Nardis, Roche and Lindt.

While Josh and his team worked with the RISBDC on a business plan and financial projections Coastway Community Bank provided the financing to consolidate debt and provide working capital for new equipment and to hire new staff. Josh said of the SBDC, “Dennis was very helpful in the funding process. His knowledge expedited the process as well making it as painless as could be.”
