Owning his own business in the food service industry has always been Adam Batchelder’s dream.  Culinary Arts has been his passion and now he is the proud owner of Smoke & Squeal BBQ LLC, a new food truck based out of Pawtucket RI. Smoke & Squeal delivers an authentic smoked BBQ experience where the customer will see, smell and taste the smoke. BBQ is not a new phenomenon, however using modern smoking techniques and equipment, Smoke & Squeal takes comfort food to new heights.  Pulled pork and brisket are a staple on the menu; however, bringing cuts of meat like short ribs and pork belly add an excitement not seen in the RI food scene up until now. Smoke & Squeal is not BBQ, it is Smoked BBQ. 

Adam is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom as a corporal in motor transportation. During his time in the Marines, he attended Johnson and Wales University (JWU) for his Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts to pursue his passion for food. Since graduating from JWU, he have been an accomplished Executive Chef, Culinary Instructor and Food Service Director for a multinational company. Over the last ten years, he has managed business contracts ranging from $1.4 million to $5.2 million in the Healthcare industry and corporate sector. Due to his diverse management and logistics background coupled with education from Johnson and Wales University and the United States Marine Corps, he has proven expertise and skill set to manage any food business and its personnel.

Adam can tell you that the Rhode Island Small Business Development Center (RISBDC) has been instrumental in the development of his business plan, financial funding and business development. Adam stated, “I have been dreaming of opening my own business for the last two years however I have never been able to find the right path.”  In July of 2016, Adam found the phone number through internet research for Amit Basnet at the Rhode Island Small Business Development Center. As he stated before he had trouble finding the right path, the RISBDC gave him the road map and guided him down the confusing road of government regulations and funding world. Like many who want to start a small business the fear of the unknown, the fear of failure, the fear of where to begin weighed heavily on him. It reminded Adam of saying “The wealthiest place on the planet is the graveyard, because in the graveyard you will find inventions that we were never exposed to. Ideas and dreams that never became reality. Hopes and aspirations that were never acted upon.”  Adam is thankful that Amit could help him reach his goals, and make his dream a reality. “I could not have done this on my own and I could not afford to hire someone to assist me. The experience and direction Amit provided helped me sleep at night. He has been a valuable resource, advisor and friend.”
