Rhode Island business owners Paige and Jonathan Voccia are celebrating fast-paced success with their speech therapy business. The married couple share a commitment to helping those in their community with speech, communication, and cognitive difficulties and have always dreamed of owning their own business. 

“We were drawn to creating something of our own, building it from the ground up and working as a team to make that happen,” says Paige, a trained speech-language pathologist. 

The couple finally took the leap into entrepreneurship after recognizing a growing need for outpatient speech therapy services.

Paige found a Cranston location for her business and worked on creating a website and logo. However, she needed some help with developing a marketing plan to attract new business. She requested assistance from Rhode Island Small Business Development Center Director Amit Basnet, and Associate State Director Diane Fournaris also assigned Marketing Counselor Julie Loffredi to work with the client over several weeks.

Paige says the SBDC was a great resource. “From our first meeting, Julie helped me to set clear and achievable goals to help grow our business and better understand how to market and brand our practice.  She provided wonderful resources and ideas to help us grow our brand, connect with the community and reach individuals and families seeking speech therapy for themselves or their loved ones,” says Paige.

Speech Services Rhode Island, LLC continues to grow and the Voccias are excited about the future. 

During the first year, Paige reported significant growth with the addition of five speech language pathologists and an occupational therapist.  In addition, they continue to grow their outpatient clinic while also expanding their work with local public schools and charter schools by providing short term and long term coverage. 

“We look forward to finding quality candidates to continue to grow our team and deliver high quality speech therapy services throughout the state,” Paige says.
