Whether you’re in a laboratory or in an office, the Green Team program helps campus staff and faculty interested in leading a greener and more sustainable lifestyle to “green” their office or lab operations with the support of the URI Sustainability Office. Designating a Green Ambassador and recruiting colleagues to form a Green Team is the first step. The designated Green Ambassador leads the way for others in the department, floor, wing, lab, or building to follow and provides support to team members to follow through with their goal to “go green.”
Joining a Green Team does not commit staff and faculty to do anything but try. There are no requirements or metrics to achieve until the Green Team decides to pursue certification. In the meantime, the Green Ambassador and all members of the team, will have access to a resource-rich URI SharePoint site that includes everything needed to organize and ensure success of a URI Green Team. When ready, Teams can take it to the next level by registering their office for Green Office Certification, or their lab for Green Lab Certification.
Ready to get started? You don’t have to have a fully-formed team to begin, but you do need a Green Ambassador as a point of contact.

The Green Team program is a stepping-stone to getting faculty and staff involved in a responsible green lifestyle which simultaneously helps the campus move toward achieving goals outlined in the URI Strategic Plan for Campus Sustainability. Start with simple changes. Small steps such as recycling, reusing scrap paper, double-sided printing, and unplugging unused electronics will move your Green Team in a positive direction. To help you and your team get started, visit the URI Green Team SharePoint site and find all the resources you’ll need to build your Green Team.
