Before You Enroll: Make an Informed Decision
Choosing a college is an important decision. Before enrolling at the University of Rhode Island, active-duty service members using Department of Defense Tuition Assistance (TA) are encouraged to review resources designed to help compare institutions, understand costs, and make informed decisions about their education.
The following federal tools provide information about college costs, graduation rates, student outcomes, financial aid, and other factors to consider when selecting a school:
College Scorecard
The College Scorecard provides information about colleges and universities, including costs, graduation rates, debt, and post-graduation outcomes.
College Navigator
College Navigator is a resource from the National Center for Education Statistics that allows students to compare colleges based on information such as tuition and fees, enrollment, graduation rates, financial aid, and other institutional characteristics.
College Financing Plan
The College Financing Plan is a standardized financial aid offer designed to help students understand their estimated costs, financial assistance, and out-of-pocket expenses. Students should carefully review their financial aid information and compare options when considering enrollment. A link to this document will show in your URI e-Campus self-service portal if you apply for financial aid.
Paying for College
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s Paying for College resource provides tools to help students understand college costs, compare financial aid offers, and plan for paying for higher education.
Department of Defense TA Decide
TA Decide is a resource specifically designed to help service members compare schools and make informed decisions when using Tuition Assistance benefits.
Student Loan Default Rate
The Cohort Default Rate (CDR) measures the percentage of federal student loan borrowers who enter repayment during a federal fiscal year and default within three years. The University of Rhode Island’s CDR is compared with the national average and the average for public four-year institutions. A low CDR reflects successful student loan repayment outcomes among our graduates and former students.
Students are also encouraged to connect with URI’s Center for Military and Veteran Education (MAVE) and Enrollment Services with questions about military benefits, financial aid, costs, or the enrollment process. URI is committed to supporting military-connected students from enrollment through graduation.
