Create the Syllabus

A syllabus should contain the information students need to make meaningful choices about their courses, which includes mention of the full student learning outcomes you have selected for the course. The Office of Teaching and Learning provides information on Syllabus Development including the information to be included in a syllabus. There are also sample syllabi and proposals for each outcome that have been approved for the General Education program. If you have a situation where multiple faculty are delivering multiple sections of the course, one syllabus should be created and used as the sample syllabus for that course. This syllabus is submitted to the committee and it is the responsibility of the individual departments to ensure that all other syllabi have the required information and the same learning outcomes. The Office for the Advancement of Teaching & Learning is available to help with syllabus development and there is some information to help with specifying the goals and outcomes that need to appear on the syllabus.

Next Step: Once the syllabus is complete, it is time to provide a plan for delivering and assessing your outcome
