Dr. Daniel Graney is the Director of Substance Abuse Prevention Services at the University of Rhode Island. In this position he provides confidential assessments, consultations, and referrals for treatment for students and staff. He is responsible for coordinating the campus-wide substance abuse prevention efforts. He works closely with at-risk populations including freshmen, Greek students, and athletes. He also participates in a number of off-campus community and statewide initiatives, including the Rhode Island Town/Gown Partnership and the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws Advisory Committee.

Before coming to URI, Dan was the director of a Forensic/Addictions unit at a community mental health center in Massachusetts for five years. He holds a masters degree in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College in NYC. He was awarded his doctorate in Higher Education Leadership from Johnson and Wales University in 2011.

Michael Bernstein

Mike Bernstein is a 3rd year Ph.D. student in the Psychology program at URI, where he studies alcohol use amongcollege students.  Mike is the Graduate Assistant for Substance Abuse Prevention Services and regularly meets with students to conduct Judicial Alcohol/Drug Education (JADE) sessions, which is based upon Motivational Interviewing (MI) principles.  He is happy to meet with any student who is concerned about the alcohol or drug use of him/herself or a friend.  If necessary, Mike can also refer students to outside resources.
