Biography

Hello URI students, faculty and staff. My name is Essence Harrison and I am the new Assistant Coordinator of STEM and BUS Tutoring at the Academic Enhancement Center located in Roosevelt Hall.  In my role, I assist with the development and administration of training programs for tutors and receptionists, assist with the recruitment, hiring, and training of peer tutors, and schedule and assist in the supervision of tutoring staff at the drop-in center and appointment based settings. One of my goals as the Assistant Coordinator is to ensure that both students and tutors have the support they need in order to be successful during their time at URI.

I attended Rhode Island College during my undergraduate and graduate career holding both a B.A (2016)  and a M.A (2021)  in Youth Development. I have worked with youth for over seven years. Before joining the URI community, I worked as an Impact Manager with City Year Providence mentoring student success coaches who are serving in one of five elementary schools in Providence.

If I am not in my office located on the fourth floor of Roosevelt, you can find me in the Drop-In Center located in the Carothers Library. I am looking forward to collaborating with the URI community!
