Curriculum
Ph.D. Program Requirements
The student must complete a total of at least 64 academic credits beyond the bachelor’s degree as follows:
- At least 44 credits in coursework
- At least 18 dissertation research credits (i.e., CSC699)
- At least 2 credits in seminar series (1 credit hour per semester).
A student entering the program with an M.S. degree in Computer Science, Statistics or a related area may be granted up to 30 credits toward the Ph.D. in Computer and Statistical Sciences. A program of study can include at most three courses at the 400-level. Students who have undergraduate credits for a particular 400-level course (or equivalent) cannot repeat the course for graduate credit.
Specific Requirements for Computer Science Concentration
Students must complete:
- Four graduate CSC courses decided after consulting the graduate committee.
- Four more CSC courses or equivalent approved by the student’s advisor or major professor.
- At least one graduate STA course approved by the student’s advisor or major professor.
- Other courses must be selected in order to meet the coursework minimum and will be selected in consultation with the student’s advisor or major professor.

Specific Requirements for Statistics Concentration
Students must complete:
- Five graduate STA courses decided after consulting the graduate committee.
- Four more graduate statistics courses approved by the student’s advisor or major professor.
- At least one CSC graduate course approved by the student’s advisor or major professor.
- Other courses must be selected in order to meet the coursework minimum and will be selected in consultation with the student’s advisor or major professor.
