The Multilingual Learner Education Graduate Certificate is a 12-credit online program designed for educators seeking to support multilingual learners (MLLs) and meet Rhode Island’s proficiency-level MLL Competencies.
Through a four-course sequence, participants develop the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to effectively serve MLLs and their families in diverse educational settings. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to earn the Multilingual Learner (MLL) Endorsement issued by the Rhode Island Department of Education.

Program Goals
- Prepare educators to meet Rhode Island’s proficiency-level Multilingual Learner (MLL) Competencies.
- Develop the knowledge and skills needed to effectively support multilingual learners and their families.
- Provide a streamlined pathway for educators to fulfill Rhode Island’s MLL regulatory requirements.
- Support teachers, school leaders, and educational professionals in creating inclusive and equitable learning environments.
- Offer flexible credentialing options through Graduate Certificate, Accelerated Bachelor’s to Certificate (ABC), and Accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s (ABM) pathways.
- Align professional preparation with the Rhode Island Department of Education’s standards for MLL proficiency and endorsement.
