M.A. with Teacher Certification

Health and Physical Education Specialization

The Master of Arts with Teacher Certification Program in Health and Physical Education is designed for individuals who are seeking initial Rhode Island Teacher Certification while working toward a master’s degree in Education.

Admission to this program requires that you submit an online
application through the URI Graduate School.

There are three subject areas for certification: physical education, health and adapted physical education. Certification requires a minimum of 55 credits within these three subject areas (see MATCP curriculum sheet). To determine how many courses are required for your completion of the program, you can match course requirements
with undergraduate transcripts, then discuss this with your academic advisors.

As a master’s degree candidate, you are required to take 30 graduate level credits. You should confer with your advisor regarding the selection of these graduate level courses.

* MA/TCP candidates are required to meet with their academic advisor to determine required certification courses requirement and graduate level content major courses.
