Once you have decided on full or partial outcomes, you must specify the elements (rows) from the rubrics that will be assessed in your course. The elements include many of the things we do in a course, but not all of what we do is on the list, and what we do does not cover all of the elements (rows). That is a good thing in a large, diverse, and complex university, which is why instructors are allowed to cover a subset of the elements. For example, if you choose Social and Behavioral Sciences as a full outcome and Math as a partial outcome, then you need to select 5 of the 8 elements from the Social/Behavioral Sciences Template to satisfy the requirements for a full outcome and 4 of the 7 element from the Mathematics/Statistics Template to satisfy the requirements for a partial outcome. Below are the elements from the Social and Behavioral Sciences rubric and you must choose 5 rows (elements). This decision is made by individual instructors unless this is a course with multiple faculty teaching multiple sections. In this case each instructor must have the same two outcomes, but each instructor may select any 5 elements from the Social and Behavioral Sciences rubric and any 4 elements from the Math rubric for his/her section.

Next Step: Once you have decided on the second outcome, it is time to create the Syllabus.
