Below are links to a number of resources for graduate students at URI. We’ve organized the links under the headers Academics, Student Services, Employment, and Graduate Student Groups.

Academics:

URI Graduate School – The official site of the Graduate School at the University of Rhode Island. This site contains information invaluable to Graduate Students.

Graduate Writing Center – A new service that provides writing support to all URI doctoral and master’s students to foster continuing development of academic and professional writing skills necessary to succeed in graduate programs and academic or professional careers.

Enrollment Services – This office aids students with enrollment, from registering for classes or getting a transcript, to understanding financial aid or paying bills. 

The University Library – This site is useful if you would like to know more about what the University Library offers to graduate students, including information on librarians.

Diversity and Inclusion Badge – The Diversity & Inclusion Badge Program (DIBP) is a customizable micro-credential program aligned with URI’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice goals offered yearly by the Graduate School.

Student Services:

Housing & Residental Life (HRL) – This site provides additional housing opportunities to students, both on and off-campus. There is also a Commuter Housing page also available.

Disability Services – This site is useful if you have a disability or are a Teaching Assistant (TA). Disability Services helps students navigate any accommodations they need to succeed at URI.

Career Services – Provides career information for graduate students, including internships and job opportunities.

Counseling Center – The URI Counseling Center provides confidential support for the personal, emotional, and academic well-being of our students. These services include individual counseling, group counseling, and referrals.

The Office of Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity and Diversity (AAEOD) – This office ensures the University’s commitment and responsibility to foster a diverse, equitable and inclusive working and learning community. Their website includes information on reporting discrimination; resources for Community, Equity, and Diversity; and information about the Bystander Intervention Program. 

Community, Equity and Diversity The University of Rhode Island is passionate about promoting a campus culture and community where you are welcomed, respected and valued for who you are.

Bias Resource Team If you experience or witness an incident of discrimination based on your age, gender, gender identity and/or gender expression, physical or mental disability, race or ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status at the University of Rhode Island, you may submit a Bias Report Form here. If you would like direct communication from the BRT, you are encouraged to provide your contact information. Note that your name and contact information are not required to submit the form.

BRT members will review your case and inform appropriate parties to address your concern. When contact information is provided, the BRT will review your options and connect you with campus resources that best suit your needs. Any member of the BRT can answer questions regarding the bias report form and campus resources.

Office of International Students & Scholars – This site is aimed specifically aimed at International students and consists of information invaluable to those who are studying at URI from abroad.

Gender and Sexuality Center – The Gender and Sexuality Center prides itself on providing Education, Engagement, and Support for the URI campus community and beyond.

Women’s Center – The URI Women’s Center partners with others in the URI community to provide an empowering space which promotes social justice for every member of the community, regardless of gender, gender identity, body, ability, sexual orientation, race, spirituality, and ethnicity.

University Ombud – The URI Office of the Ombud provides advice and mediation to students and faculty/staff in the pursuit of fairness. All conversations and meetings are confidential.

Student Handbook – The University Conduct System at the University of Rhode Island is designed to hold students accountable for maintaining the standards of conduct of the URI community. The policies of the university, including the code of conduct for all students, can be found in the Student Handbook.

Division of Student Affairs – The Division of Student Affairs at the University of Rhode Island is committed to creating inclusive and collaborative learning experiences that ignite a lifelong pursuit of knowledge, equity, justice, and well-being in every student.

Employment:

Graduate Assistants United (GAU) – The official website of Graduate Assistants United, the graduate student union at the University of Rhode Island, with membership reserved exclusively for Graduate Assistants. This website is an invaluable resource if you would like to know what your rights and privileges are as a Graduate Assistant.
The GAU also has a Facebook page.

Career Services – Provides career information for graduate students, including internships and job opportunities.

University Ombud – The URI Office of the Ombud provides advice and mediation to students and faculty/staff in the pursuit of fairness. All conversations and meetings are confidential.

University College – Useful for Teaching Assistants and other graduate students involved with undergraduates. Includes resources on tutoring and support, as well as many first-year programs.

Special Libraries Association – Official website of the Special Libraries Association.

Society for Women in Marine Science – Offical website of SWMS. The URI chapter has a Twitter account here for the latest news.

VOICES (Voices of Inclusion in Communities of Education and Science) a group dedicated to mutual learning around topics of inclusion, equity, diversity, and representation.

The Coastal Society a nationally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to facilitating community among coastal students and professionals. URI’s chapter can be contacted at thecoastalsocietyuri@gmail.com.
