Beyond your living space, you’ll find modern, high-tech learning spaces, highlighted by the recently renovated Ranger Hall, offering all the equipment and facilities you need to support your academic and creative endeavors.

You’ll also have ample opportunities to get involved in the campus and local community, solve real-world problems, and develop relationships with the Harrington School’s many local and global partners.

Spend a day in the life of a URI Harrington Student!

There are many ways for students to get hands-on experience within the Harrington School. Students can take advantage of opportunities, organizations, and resources to learn skills such as sports broadcasting, social media, equipment management, and peer mentoring. These experiences allow you to sample future career paths and find your place as an integral member of our community.

You have the chance to network in New York City with alumni and visit industry-leading companies such as CBS News, NBA, and Viacom; or you can spend Spring Break in Austin, Texas, at the famous South by Southwest Film Festival(SXSW); or submit a proposal and receive funding to attend conferences across the country such as the Online News Association and more. 

These trips are an excellent opportunity to get outside the classroom, learn more about potential careers, and help you envision your future.

Students have many opportunities across campus to get involved. These student organizations allow you to gain valuable experience, build your portfolio, and expand your network. Whether you want to coordinate events, report on news and sports, or broadcast your favorite playlist, URI has something for everyone.

The Harrington School prepares students for their future careers in communication and media fields through hands-on experiential learning opportunities, such as internships. Students are encouraged to do an internship during their time at URI. For students who would face financial hardship in doing an unpaid internship, we offer an internship fund to cover the costs associated with these internships. We partner with companies, such as Workplace Options, to place students in exciting and useful internships.

The Harrington School also regularly hosts events that allow students to network with industry professionals, including career fairs and mentoring events. Our alumni are excited to return to campus and share their experience with current students.
