Diversity and Inclusion

URI Health Services values diversity and welcomes students and patients from all backgrounds. In our services and employment practices, we do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, creed, national or ethnic origin, citizenship status, age, disability, veteran status or any other legally protected class status.

Racial and Ethnic Diversity

We recognize that racial and ethnic minorities have seen disparities in health as well as discrimination in society for many years. URI Health Services has a diverse staff, and all of our providers are prepared to offer services that are equitable and welcoming.

LGBTQ Health

Your identity is important to us. Everyone on our staff is prepared to offer welcoming and respectful care to LGBTQA+ students, and meet your healthcare and wellness needs. We will respect your gender identity, your name, and your pronouns, so please just let us know how you would like to be addressed. You will also find gender inclusive bathrooms throughout our clinic.

Women’s Health

We provide gynecologic services such as Pap smears, prescriptions for birth control pills, and breast exams, but we know that women’s healthcare involves more than just your gynecologic needs. Whether you are coming to us for a cold or for contraceptive counseling, rest assured that you will receive care that respects you as an entire person.

International Students

Our Billing/Insurance office is here to help you comply with the University’s insurance requirement and also to help you understand the U.S. medical system. If you need foreign language interpretation, we can arrange for phone interpretation during your visits to URI Health Services. Please request it before your visit, if possible. If your doctor at home has trouble with our immunization compliance procedure, our Immunization Coordinator is available to assist.

Religious Diversity

Our students come from many different spiritual and religious backgrounds. If your healthcare decisions are guided by the requirements of your faith, please let us know, so we can help you obtain the best care while respecting your spiritual background. We collaborate often with our Chaplain Association to support our diverse student body.

Financial Insecurity

We understand that being sick can sometimes be expensive. If you have trouble with your medical bills or need assistance understanding your health insurance, please reach out to URI Health Service administration. If you have the URI Health Insurance Plan, you can also turn to the insurance/billing representative who is available at URI HS for any questions you might have about your insurance coverage.
