FAQs

  • If some of my friends did not get invited to the Room Selection process, can I select an assignment and leave a vacant space for them to fill later?
    • Unfortunately, no. Only enough students are invited to the Room Selection process as space exists. If you were able to hold space for friends not invited to the Room Selection process, there wouldn’t be enough room for all the Room Selection invitees to select their housing.
  • If I’m in a small group, why can’t I/we see or select a larger space (e.g., a group of two cannot select a space for five)?
    • We do this to keep options available for appropriately sized groups. For example, imagine there are two spaces for groups of five. You’re in a group of five, but ahead of you are two students each in groups of one. One student picks one space and the other student picks the other space. Now there would be no room left for your group of five.
  • But aren’t there 10-person spaces in Eddy, Garrahy and Wiley? And 6-person spaces in Brookside?
    • Yes, there are. However, we electronically separate those physical spaces during Room Selection to allow smaller groups to fill them. It’s rare for groups of 10 to be able to form, so the twenty-nine 10-person spaces are set up to be selected by groups of five. As for Brookside, there are only nine 6-person spaces; we don’t want to encourage groups of six to form and have no other spaces for them to select (without breaking up) when the 6-person spaces run out.
  • If I join a group so they can select their housing, can I then remove myself and select my own housing? Or join a different group?
    • Unfortunately, no. Choose your group wisely! Once you have selected a housing assignment (or had a group select your housing assignment), no immediate changes will be made. There will be a Room Change Request form available in late May/early June (details to be emailed later).
  • If I (or my group) select a housing assignment, but then realize there was a better option available, can we re-select?
    • Unfortunately, no. Choose your housing assignment wisely! Once you have selected a housing assignment (or had a group select your housing assignment), no immediate changes will be made. There will be a Room Change Request form available in late May/early June (details to be emailed later).
  • If I’m in a large group, why can I/we only see housing options for a smaller size (e.g., a group of four is only seeing spaces for three)?
    • Check that whoever is looking at available options has fully matched with everyone who should be in the group. This means they have requested everyone else in the group and accepted everyone’s request.
  • What if I want to have a student in my group, but they won’t accept my request?
    • You will need to contact that student or look for someone else to join your group. Housing will not complete match requests.
  • May a group of mixed genders select a space to live together?
    • Yes! Most spaces will allow groups of mixed genders to select them. Some spaces, however, will only allow groups of a single gender to select them.
  • If I/my group select part of a larger suite/apartment, will the rest of the suite/apartment be the same gender?
    • Not necessarily. To allow groups of mixed genders to select housing, suites/apartments will be designated mixed gender.
