Academic plan

Your J Term class experience should support and enrich your academic plan. It can offer the opportunity to take a course you need to graduate, have a transformative experience abroad, or simply explore something new.

Your academic advisor can help you identify the J Term course that may best help you achieve your academic goals. Make an appointment with your advisor via Starfish.

Winter J Term classes count towards your URI GPA. Students may enroll for a maximum of 4 credits each session. Courses offered may vary from 1 to 4 credits and students may not petition to earn more than 4 credits.

Students completing the credits required to graduate during the Winter J Term will be eligible to graduate in May. Students in this position may obtain a letter from their Dean’s Office stating that they have completed all requirements of their program. A diploma and proof of graduation will be issued after the May commencement.

Academic standing

You will not be dismissed as the result of a grade in a Winter J term course. Students academically dismissed at the end of December may stay enrolled in the Winter J Term course. Students on probation, who earn a GPA above 2.0 as the result of the Winter J term will be removed from probation. Due to timing, this will not occur until after the spring semester has begun.
