Biography

Karen Walton Morse is a Professor in the University Library. Her primary role is as head of the URI Libraries’ University Archives and Special Collections unit (FKA Distinctive Collections). 

Before joining the faculty at URI in 2017, Karen spent eight years at the State University of New York at Buffalo where she held the position of Processing Archivist and worked with everything from university records to James Joyce manuscripts. She also served as Manager of Library and Archival Services for Historic Hudson Valley (a museum of historic sites headquartered in Tarrytown, New York) for six years. Karen has been a member of the Academy of Certified Archivists since 2005.

She has hosted undergraduate and graduate internships/practica in UASC through HIS 477/577 and LSC 595.

She teaches LTI 350G, Bias: Interrogating the Archive, a General Education Course that meets the following learning objectives:  B4 (Information Literacy), D1 (Integrate and Apply), and GC (Grand Challenge).  In the 2024/25 school year, the course changed from a fall to spring semester offering.
