Admission
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education in the United States or a foreign institution of acceptable standing.
- Adequate undergraduate preparation in the proposed major field or equivalent evidence of an appropriate background for undertaking an advanced degree program.

Prerequisites
- At least two semesters of Chemistry
- One semester each of:
- Biochemistry
- Anatomy or Biology
- Human Physiology
- Nutrition
- Statistics
- Advanced nutrition (with a biochemistry prerequisite)
- Advanced statistics (with a math prerequisite)
Students from other academic areas are encouraged to apply but must have the prerequisites listed above.
How to Apply
- Identify and contact a faculty member you would like to served as your major professor and with whom you will conduct research with. Then, contact Graduate Program Director, Dr. Kathleen Melanson to discuss the program, application or with any questions.
- Submit an online application to the URI Graduate School. Please refer to the Graduate School description of the application process for information on the University’s application deadlines.

Yes. The department offers limited, competitive assistantships. Discuss the possibility of this with your potential major professor.

Is the GRE required?
No.
Is there a minimum GPA requirement?
No. The department will prioritize a GPA of 3.0 or higher, however decisions are made on the whole application, not the GPA alone.
