Questions about technology and support

  • What technology do I need?
    You will need a computer with internet access, webcam, microphone (most of which are built in), word processing software, i.e. Microsoft word (please note that google docs and sheets are free). 
  • What is Brightspace and how do I get started?
    Brightspace is the learning management system at URI. This program is where you will login to access your course documents, participate in message board discussions, and submit your assignments, take tests and view grades.
  • What is e-Campus?
    e-Campus is URI’s student portal where students can access records, register for courses, check bills and other financial information, look at grades and transcripts, etc. e-Campus is accessible here.
  • How do I reset my password?  
    If you need to reset your password, you can contact the IT Service Desk at 401-874-4357. 
  • What should I do if I am accessing my online course from a foreign country?  
    Follow normal procedures for access; *there are a few select countries who put restrictions on internet access where you will not be able to access e-Campus and other URI websites.
  • Who do I contact for technical support?  
    If you need technical support, you can contact the IT Service Desk at 401-874-4357. 
  • How can I receive help with adding, dropping, or registering for courses, reviewing my schedule etc?
    For help with adding, dropping, or registering, you can email Janet Buchanan or call her at 401-874-2266. 
  • Where can I download software required by my course? 
    URI is proud to provide Office 365 for all students. Contact your instructor or refer to the class syllabus for specific course needs.  

Questions about library resources

  • What types of library resources does URI have? 
    All students can log into the URI library with their e-Campus username and Sakai password to access all data bases and e-journals. 
  • Who do I contact for difficulty accessing readings or streaming videos from the Library? 
    Contact the
    URI Library reference desk for help accessing reading or videos. 
  • How do I access the library system for academic help in my online course? 
    Contact the URI Library reference desk for academic help in your online course.  
  • Where will I find/get my textbook? Other supporting materials?  
    You can find most required textbooks by checking the course syllabus or with your course instructor. Textbooks can be ordered through the URI Campus Bookstore.
