We have room in our program for qualified transfer students who would like to join us in Kingston. We know that this is a big decision, and we will provide you with one-on-one advising support throughout the application process.

âś… We will help you create an academic plan to set you on course for enrollment in the URI Pharm.D. program, maximizing the courses you have already completed to ensure on-time graduation.

âś… URI College of Pharmacy is the lowest cost pharmacy program in New England. We will help you navigate the financial implications of transferring including reviewing your previous scholarship award based on your college academic record. We will also review your FAFSA information and support you with any need-based aid for which you qualify.

âś… We will help with additional aspects of transferring and assist in finding your place in our welcoming and inclusive community.

Transferring to URI

 

Admission is for fall semester only

We strongly encourage applicants to apply and submit supporting materials by March 15 to allow sufficient time for interviews. The official application deadline is June 1 (with final materials due by June 15).

 

General Admission Requirements

Admission to the Pharm.D. Program is extremely competitive.

All students must meet basic college- preparatory unit requirements (typically completed in high school): 4 in English, 3 in math (Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry), 2 in science, 2 in history/social science, and 2 units in the same foreign language.

The College of Pharmacy requires a solid academic program of study with a strong background in math and science.

In addition to the academic requirements, students must be able to meet the requirements for a pharmacy intern license and certain introductory and advance practice sites also require you to undergo a criminal background check and submit to drug testing. Students will also be expected to meet the technical standards and to adhere to the professional standards of behavior.


Application Process

Transfer applicants are required to use the Transfer Common Application and submit official transcripts. Submitting “School Forms” is not required. A completed application includes:

  • Completed URI Transfer Application ($65 application fee) if not already a student at URI.
  • Official electronic transcripts from all post-secondary institutions, whether you desire or expect to receive credit for such work. Electronic transcripts should be e-mailed to transferadmission@uri.edu
  • Official high school transcript, unless you have an Associate or Bachelor degree in a subject similar in content to what is offered at URI.

Minimum Requirements for Consideration

The University minimum requirements for consideration include:

  • Personal statement explaining why you have chosen to pursue a career in Pharmacy
  • Work experience and two letters of recommendation
  • Completion of the following courses* with a grade point average of at least 2.7 and no grade lower than C- (courses completed outside URI must be a C or higher to transfer).:
    • Principles of Biology I with a laboratory
    • Fundamentals of Human Anatomy and Physiology I with laboratory
    • Fundamentals of Human Anatomy and Physiology II with laboratory
    • General Chemistry with laboratory
    • General Chemistry Lecture II with laboratory
    • Organic Chemistry Lecture I with laboratory
    • Organic Chemistry Lecture II with laboratory
    • Applied Calculus I
    • Introductory Statistics
    • Introductory Medical Microbiology
    • Introductory Biochemistry
    • Principles of Economics: Microeconomics
    • Writing to Inform and Explain or Introduction to Research Writing
    • Communication Fundamentals
    • Ethics

* Courses must be complete by the end of the summer session prior to first professional year.

Note: Completion of the academic requirements does not guarantee admission to the Pharm.D. program.


Interview

Applicants will be invited to interview if the minimum requirements for consideration are met. The interview is designed to assess applicants’ commitment to the profession of pharmacy, knowledge of the profession, and ability to communicate orally and in writing.

Dr Estus is the PharmD Program Director for Student Affairs. She is a Clinical Professor focusing in the area of geriatric and oversees the first professional year experiential education service learning program. She also serves as Chair for the College of Pharmacy Admissions Committee.
