Entry from High School
All students must meet college-preparatory unit requirements (typically completed in high school):
- 4 in English.
- 3 in math (algebra I, algebra II, and plane geometry).
- 2 in science.
- 2 in history/social science.
- 2 units in the same foreign language.

Transfer Status
If you have attempted fewer than 24 transferable credits, you must have a minimum GPA of 2.8/4.0 and meet all firstĀ year student admission requirements.
If you have attempted 24 transferable credits or more, you must have a GPA of 2.5/4.0.
If you have earned an associate or bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, you must have a minimum GPA of 2.4/4.0.
Transfer Credit
Credits earned for courses such as culinary arts or applied technical sciences are not transferable. Credit is not granted for remedial or developmental coursework. Only courses with grades of “C” or better will be considered for transfer credit (grades of “C-” and below do not transfer).
Scholarships
No separate application is required for our merit-based scholarships, but all students who would like to be considered for any merit award must apply by published deadlines. Merit awards are not available to students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree or are attending URI through discounted tuition programs (i.e., Joint Admission Agreement).

Applications received after March 1 will be considered on a case-by-case basis
A completed application includes:
- Completed URI Transfer Student Application
- $65 Application fee
- Official electronic or official printed transcripts from all postsecondary institutions attended, regardless of whether you desire or expect to receive credit for such work. Electronic transcripts should be emailed to transferadmission@uri.edu
- Official high school transcript unless you have an associate or bachelor’s degree with coursework similar in content to what is offered at URI.
- We do not require SAT or ACT scores for transfer students.
- Students with more than 60 credits must choose a major other than “undecided.”
