All equipment disposals are processed through our facility by completing a work order.
COMPUTERS
After the work order is processed, the computer will be picked up and brought to Central Receiving. The hard drive will be removed, logged in, and locked in a secure location. On a regular basis, the State’s recycling vendor is contacted, and a date is set for the hard drives to be shredded. The Property & Control Officer transports the hard drives to the State’s recycling vendor and witnesses the shredding process. A Certificate of Complete Hard Drive Destruction is issued at the completion of the shredding process, and the documentation is filed at the Central Receiving Department.
HAZARDOUS MATERIALS
Disposal of scientific equipment containing hazardous materials must also be cleared by Environmental Health & Safety.
FREON REMOVAL
Disposal of items containing Freon also requires an IVPO to be processed with Facilities Services (4-4060) in the amount of $35/item for Freon removal. For more information visit Facilities.
E-WASTE
Need instructions for disposal of e-waste
FEDERAL PROPERTY
Disposal of federal property (identified with a yellow tag and a URI#) must also be cleared by Property.
SPECIAL HANDLING
If the disposal requires special handling (ie. specialty moving crew, rigging equipment, etc.), the department will be charged to move it.
