Comparative Biology Resources Center
The Comparative Biology Resources Center (CBRC) at The University of Rhode Island (URI) is fully committed to the judicious, humane care and use of animals in research and teaching. The CBRC supports all URI laboratory animal related research through the provision of laboratory animal management and veterinary medical care and assures institutional compliance with all federal, state and local regulations and policies. The CBRC is responsible for animal procurement; animal husbandry; veterinary care including health surveillance, preventative medicine programs, animal quarantine, personnel training and special technical support; and maintenance of animal facilities and equipment.
Due to the growth of research over the past few years, CBRC facilities are rapidly approaching maximum capacity. It is unlikely that any new animal research space will become available in the next 5 years, so we need to be very intentional about starting new animal research projects and recruiting new animal research faculty.
Moving forward, if your department is recruiting a new faculty member who will conduct research with animals that uses CBRC facilities, please check in with the Office of Research Integrity (ORI) via the survey linked below before the hiring process is complete. In addition, current animal users should also check in with ORI before planning novel animal research projects. This notification will allow CBRC staff to determine whether we can accommodate the researcher’s needs while maintaining fairness for existing animal users. Please note that given our current space constraints, we may not be able to accommodate all requests.
Please complete the brief Animal User Questionnaire to provide the CBRC with the information needed to determine how we can best meet all researchers’ needs.
