Comparative Biology Resources Center
Health

The Comparative Biology Resources Center (CBRC) facilitates the humane care and use of laboratory animals (e.g., mice, rats, hamsters, guinea pigs and rabbits) in research and teaching at the University of Rhode Island (URI).

The animal colonies maintained at URI are optimal for research when maintained clean of common infectious agents (animal pathogens) and healthy. To assure a clean health status, animals are tested by PCR-based screening for the infectious agents of concern. Testing is performed on a semi-annual basis (every 6 months) alternating between direct animal testing and exhaust-duct testing where applicable.

Testing results are reviewed by the Attending Veterinarian and available upon request.
