Applying to URI

To apply to the University of Rhode Island, you will complete the Common Application. Since URI is a “Common Application Exclusive” university, this is the only application for admission we accept, whether you are applying as a freshman, transfer or international student.

Before completing the Common Application, we recommend that you thoroughly review the admission information section—Freshman, Transfer, or International—that is appropriate for you.

If you have technical problems while filling out your Common Application, use the online “Help Center” to receive technical assistance directly from Common Application staff. In order for us to receive your application, you must complete and submit all of the required sections.

After you apply

After you apply, you will first receive an email confirmation from the Common Application. Within 72 hours, we will send you a letter (via regular mail), which includes information about our application review process and instructions on how to check the status of your application online. Please note: International applicants receive notification via email. Most importantly, the letter will contain your URI ID#, which you must use to check your application status online through the URI e-Campus system.  We ask that you read the letter carefully and save it.

How to check status of your application

To check the status of your application online, you will first need to register as a first-time user in URI’s e-campus system, using the URI ID# mailed to you in the confirmation letter you received from the URI Office of Admission. E-Campus is the University’s electronic student access system.

Due to our high mail volume, it may take up to three weeks for paper and electronic documents to be attached to your application. (Once the documents are attached, they will reflect the actual date they were received.) Please note: If your “to do” list indicates we have not yet received something you have already submitted, we may have received it, but it has not yet been attached to your file. We appreciate your patience, and encourage you to check your status regularly.

Registering for e-Campus

Follow the instructions below to register for URI e-Campus system.

    1. Select “e-Campus” in the upper right-hand corner of the URI homepage.
    2. Select the first menu option – “First Time Users Register Here.”
    3. Fill in your first and last name and your URI ID. Your URI ID can be found on the first page of the letter from URI notifying you that we received your application. If you do not have your URI ID, enter your social security number.
    4. Select “Self Service” > “Student Admission” > “Application Status.”
    5. Check back frequently for updates.
    6. User ID, password, or log-in problems? Call the URI Help Desk at 401.874.4357.
    1. Select “e-Campus” in the upper right-hand corner of the URI homepage.
    2. In the menu select “Student e-Campus Login,” then the gold “Student e-Campus Login” button. Enter your User ID and Password to access the “Self-Service” feature.
    3. Select “Self Service” > “Student Admission” > “Application Status.”
    4. Check back frequently for updates.
