The Technology Committee invites you to join the September Let’s Talk Technology program
Photos, Photos and Photos, OH MY!!

Thursday, September 29, 2022, 11:30am – 1:00pm on Zoom

The discussion this month will be about the storage & organization of all our digital photos on our different devices. The first half will focus on suggestions and the second half will allow for open discussion & sharing of other alternatives from those attending.

  • Do you have a smart phone with hundreds (if not more) pictures stored on the phone?

  • Do you worry what would happen to the photos if you lost your phone?

  • Do you wish you could organize them into virtual “albums”?

  • Did you know that you can access them via a computer, which means you have access to them anywhere – NOT just on your phone?

  • Did you know that photos typically take up the largest amount of storage space on your smartphone? Do you wish you could free up some of that space?

Whether you use an iPhone or an Android or any other smartphone with a camera, you can do these things. Join us at the September Tech Talk and see how!

Register online or call the office at 401-874-4197.

RHODY OUTPOST: Here at URI, one of the ways that we help support students’ basic needs is through the Rhody Outpost (RO). Any current URI student can receive non-perishable food, fresh produce, eggs, and basic household/personal items each week through the RO.

Dr. Jacqui Springer, Assistant Dean for Student Support and Advocacy Services (SSAS), and Barbara Sweeney, Food Security Outreach Coordinator, will present an overview of the Rhody Outpost, including current needs and volunteer opportunities, on September 30, at 11AM at OLLI. Click here for all the details. Registration is not required.

This yearlong series draws on the expertise of environmental historians, literary scholars, musicians and writers to demonstrate the role the humanities can play in understanding and addressing the urgent environmental questions of the day. All events in the series are free and open to the public. Click here for more information.

URI PLUGGED INTO ENERGY RESEARCH LECTURE ON SEPT. 15
It’s Electric! Rhode Island’s New Transportation System
Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, 6–7:30 p.m. Hope Room, Robert J. Higgins Welcome Center, 45 Upper College Road, Kingston, R.I.

Transportation accounts for 35 percent of Rhode Island’s total greenhouse gas emissions. Reducing vehicle emissions requires investment and innovation in the electrification of Rhode Island’s transportation sector. How will Rhode Island get there? What impacts will this transition have on consumers? How will electrifying the transportation sector impact the state’s goal of achieving a net-zero emissions economy by 2050? A panel of experts will address these concerns and others in the first lecture of the 2022 series, moderated by Hank Webster, senior policy associate and Rhode Island director of the Acadia Center. Click here to register.
