Join us for a 4-session book discussion on The Slow Professor: Challenging the Culture of Speed in the Academy (Berg & Seeber, 2016). This short book explores how embracing principles of the “slow” movement can create a more reflective, balanced, and meaningful academic environment. The authors also present ways of alleviating stress while improving teaching, research, and collegiality. The ATL SoTL Lab seeks student co-researchers interested in learning more about SoTL and Student-Faculty Partnerships this Spring 2026. We will spend the spring semester conducting a scoping review of the reflective writing that has been published in the International Journal for Students as Partners in preparation for an article in honor of the journal’s 10 year anniversary. This is an excellent opportunity for students new to SoTL to learn more about the field, participate in an authentic research and co-writing experience, and have the opportunity to add a publication (and possible presentation) to their growing CVs.

Winter Writing Retreat (ALL)
Writing Across URI (now housed in ATL) invites all writers to join our Winter Writing Retreat. Keep the momentum going on your academic article, grant proposal, or creative project! There’s no formal program: just bring your laptop and other materials, plus your own lunch/snacks. We will provide coffee and tea! The retreat will be on Friday, February 27th from 9 AM – 3 PM. Feel free to join us for an hour or stay all day!
The retreats will be held in the Large Conference Room of the Coastal Institute overlooking Narragansett Bay (for directions and a map to the Bay Campus). The Coastal Institute is Building #6 on the map (you can park in the lot shaded in blue directly in front of the building).

Large Lecture High-impact Teaching Seminar: Motivated to Learn, Session #5 & #6 (ALL)
This seminar is for you if you are looking for ways to motivate students in large lecture classes. We will apply research-based strategies to address common concerns, such as: attendance, engaging students in deep learning, and completing assignments. Equipping and motivating students to be self-efficacious learners can be difficult when you do it on your own. AI Teaching Circles (ALL)
Join an AI teaching circle this spring if you are interested in exploring ways to use AI in your classroom. Fill out the registration form and ATL will match you with one to two colleagues and together you can navigate the ever-changing AI landscape. Past teaching circle participants explored the ethical integration of AI in assignments and teaching students disciplinary uses of AI while others experimented with available tools. It can be difficult to find the time to keep up with AI. A teaching circle is a great way to be efficient with your time while also connecting with colleagues. Graduate Student Learning Community Session #4 (GTA)
Are you a Grad student teaching assistant who is looking to deepen your inclusive and effective teaching practice in a community of motivated graduate student instructors? This spring, we will be forming a learning community for graduate teaching assistants (GTAs) at URI. We have four scheduled meetings (on campus, in person) for GTAs to come together and explore their teaching practice. Our community is limited to 15 participants, to facilitate thoughtful conversation and relationship building. For each meeting, there will be about an hour of work to do after each session to practice implementing what we discussed.

Writing Retreat (ALL)
Writing Across URI (now housed in ATL) invites all writers to join our Winter Writing Retreat. Keep the momentum going on your academic article, grant proposal, or creative project! There’s no formal program: just bring your laptop and other materials, plus your own lunch/snacks. We will provide coffee and tea! Feel free to join us for an hour or stay all day!
The retreats will be held in the Large Conference Room of the Coastal Institute overlooking Narragansett Bay (for directions and a map to the Bay Campus). The Coastal Institute is Building #6 on the map (you can park in the lot shaded in blue directly in front of the building).
All are welcome! You will simply be asked, in confidence, to check in with a brief statement of your writing goal and to check out with a brief statement of what you accomplished.
