Biological and Environmental Sciences

Overview

The M.S. and Ph.D. in Biological and Environmental Sciences (BES) are interdisciplinary, interdepartmental graduate degrees with faculty from multiple departments in the College of the Environment and Life Sciences (CELS), including Biological Sciences; Cell and Molecular Biology; Fisheries, Animal and Veterinary Science; Geosciences; Natural Resources Science; Nutrition and Food Sciences; and Plant Sciences; as well as faculty from the Graduate School of Oceanography.

Fall 2027 Recruitment

The BES MSc & PhD program is a research-based faculty-mentored graduate program for students who want to focus on learning research methods and design, and in completing their own independent thesis/dissertation project. Therefore, prospective applicants should demonstrate in their application that there is a good fit between their career goals and experiences and prospective research advisors. Before applying, prospective students are advised to directly contact faculty they are interested in working with to determine fit and availability of funding. A list of faculty members from Biological & Environmental Sciences that will be recruiting students for Fall 2027 will be provided in late summer 2026. Application Deadline: December 15, 2027″
