The CoopExt Communications and Marketing Team is available to help guide you in developing print and electronic marketing materials to promote your program activities, depending on your needs and vision. These tools and resources will help promote your upcoming event, workshop and / or training, and increase visibility of your program in Rhode Island. You will find templates, logos and other resources that you are welcome to use on your own, as well as ideas for tools and tricks we recommend to increase public engagement. Collecting Demographic Information

Beginning in 2021, URI Cooperative Extension programs must collect demographic information for program participants via an anonymous survey sent following registration. Demographic information should be collected as frequently as possible. See links below for helpful tips for using Qualtrics to collect this information, an example template, and the basic demographic questionnaire.

How can these resources help me?
We each come to our work with our own unique experiences that shape our thoughts and how we define ourselves within society. The goal of sharing these resources is to help each of us learn from diverse perspectives and use that knowledge to work towards becoming a just, equitable, diverse and inclusive resource for Rhode Islanders. The more we expand our knowledge as individuals, the more comfortably we will fit into our roles in our communities and service projects. This, in turn, will make us most effective leaders and contributors to the mission of URI Cooperative Extension.

Trainings

Increasing Cultural Awareness & Equity in Extension Programs (SELF-PACED TRAINING): These self-directed modules are designed for educators who work with youth, adults, and communities, as well as Extension administrators interested in increasing cultural awareness. The modules are designed to introduce you to foundational terms related to cultural competencies and equitable practices, and encourage you to explore dimensions of culture. Module 1 is Equity in Extension Programs: Getting to Know the Language, and Module 2 is A Diversity and Culture Self-Reflection.
Food Solutions New England 21-Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge (TRAINING): You (along with thousands of other people across the US and beyond) commit to deepening your understanding of, and willingness to confront, racism for twenty-one consecutive days. The Challenge will raise your awareness, change your understanding and shift the way you behave. The Challenge goes beyond individual or interpersonal racism by helping to demystify structural and institutional racism and white supremacist patterns that are sometimes invisible to people. Finally, the Challenge inspires you to act, on your own or with others in your organization, business or group, to dismantle these systems. Next Challenge begins on April 5, 2021! Register Today!
URI Diversity, Equity & Inclusion 365 Symposium (TRAINING): The URI Community, Equity and Diversity (CED) Office established the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) 365 Symposium as a virtual “third space” for students, faculty, staff, alumni, affiliates, and community members to convene conversations about diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, and decolonization. The conversations will take many forms, including panels, workshops, book talks, discussion groups, envisioning sessions, and teach-ins, bringing together a multitude of voices and perspectives to grapple with the topics that impact us within and beyond the University. The theme for the DE&I 365 Symposium is Black Lives Matter.
Rhode Island Foundation Racial Equity: A Groundwater Approach (TRAINING): The Groundwater presentation is a free three-hour introduction to racial equity. In this virtual presentation, organizers from the Racial Equity Institute will use stories and data to present a perspective that racism is fundamentally structural in nature. By examining characteristics of modern-day racial inequity, the presentation introduces participants to an analysis that many find immediately helpful and relevant. Who should attend: Anybody with an interest in advancing racial equity in Rhode Island.
