Information For Faculty

Faculty at URI play an essential role in our mission to provide access to students with disabilities.  The Office of Disability, Access, and Inclusion serves as a resource to promote equal access and inclusion for all community members at URI.

Syllabus Statements

It is helpful for students with disabilities to know how to access their academic accommodations in your course.  Disability, Access, and Inclusion collaborated with Faculty Senate to create the language below for inclusion in your course syllabus.

For Kingston or Bay Campus courses:

Students with Disabilities: Your access in this course is important. Please send me your Disability, Access, and Inclusion (DAI) accommodation letter early in the semester so that we have adequate time to discuss and arrange your approved academic accommodations.  If you have not yet established services through DAI, please contact them to engage in a confidential conversation about the process for requesting reasonable accommodations in the classroom.

DAI is located in room 302 of the Memorial Union, 401-874-2098, uri.edu/disability, dai@.uri.edu

Providence Campus courses:

Students with Disabilities: Your access in this course is important. Please send me your Disability, Access, and Inclusion (DAI) accommodation letter early in the semester so that we have adequate time to discuss and arrange your approved academic accommodations.  If you have not yet established services through DAI, please contact them to engage in a confidential conversation about the process for requesting reasonable accommodations in the classroom.

DAI in Providence is located in the Academic Skills Center, Room 239 of the Shepherd Building, 401-277-5221, uri.edu/disability/providence, dai@uri.edu

Oral announcements to this effect are also extremely helpful.

Please contact a Disability, Access, and Inclusion staff member if you have any questions about the purpose of this statement, or how it should be used.

Course and Program Accommodations

Program accommodations include: Priority Registration, Foreign Language Course Substitutions, Reduced-Course-with-Full-time-status, and Classroom Changes

The documentation must substantiate the need for program accommodations. The accommodation committee of DAI will determine case-by-case eligibility for any program accommodation. Students should contact DAI for further information.
