Primer For General Education Course Proposals

There are seven (7) steps in developing course proposals for the general education program. An outcomes oriented curriculum and the assessment that accompanies allows for the creative integration of disciplinary knowledge, necessary skill sets, and social responsibilities. For help with designing a Gen Ed course, contact the Office for the Advancement of Teaching & Learning.

  1. Decide on the type of course proposal (New Course or Course Change)
  2. Select 2 of the 12 learning outcomes
  3. Choose a full or partial second outcome
  4. Specify the elements of the outcomes that will be assessed
  5. Create the Syllabus
  6. Provide a plan for delivering and assessing the outcome
  7. Submit the proposal
