Taking the knowledge gained through research and education directly to the people to create positive change
Natural Resources Science programs offer practical training, computerized mapping, and innovative technologies to tailor scientific advances to the specific needs of Rhode Islanders.
We are home to URI’s Cooperative Extension programs in Natural Resources and Environmental Management which include the Water Quality Program and the Renewable Resources Program that provide Rhode Island citizens with the scientific information to better assess and manage their land and water resources.
Departmental resources include spatial analysis and graphics capabilities in our Environmental Data Center and the Laboratory for Terrestrial Remote Sensing; 21st Century chemical analysis laboratories; state-wide teaching and research sites including several State and Federal wildlife management areas; and the Kingston Wildlife Research Station, the longest running bird banding monitoring station in the United States. In addition, NRS hosts multiple personnel from the National Park Service Inventory and Monitoring Program.
