University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography (URI-GSO)

  • Offers graduate instruction leading to a Ph.D., Master of Science, and Master of Oceanography
  • 70 students enrolled in oceanographic focus areas – biological, chemical, geological, and physical – as well as in interdisciplinary and related areas such as atmospheric chemistry
  • Dual-degree Blue MBA with the College of Business Administration, leading to a Master of Business Administration plus a Master of Oceanography (MO)
  • Dual-degree Master of Marine Affairs (MMA) plus a Ph.D. in Oceanography with the Department of Marine Affairs within the College of the Environment and Life Sciences (CELS)

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI)

University of New Hampshire (UNH)

  • Fully accredited public research university offering more than 200 degree programs through 11 schools and colleges
  • The Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping (CCOM) is a research center affiliated with the School of Marine Science and Ocean Engineering and supports 30 graduate students each year, affiliated with one of a number of academic departments or programs (Ocean Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Earth Sciences, Oceanography, Computer Science, Natural Resources)
  • Specialty field/lab focused courses like Applied Tools in Ocean Mapping and the Hydrographic Field

The University of Southern Mississippi (USM)

  • School of Ocean Science and Engineering (SOSE) offers programs at teaching and research sites located in Hattiesburg (main campus) as well as the coastal sites in Long Beach, Stennis Space Center, and Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL; Ocean Springs)
  • Graduate educational opportunities for about 80 enrolled students within USM’s School of Ocean Science and Engineering include doctoral and masters programs in Coastal Sciences and in Marine Science
  • There are an additional 57 undergraduate students currently enrolled in SOSE programs in marine science and in ocean engineering
  • Marine Education Center (MEC) operates a host of formal and informal education programs outside of the USM degree programs
  • One-year MSc in Hydrographic Science
  • USM will introduce a Tier 2 curriculum intended to educate on operations of various systems such as powered AUVs used by the OECI
  • USM maintains an Education Partnership Agreement with Commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command for the purpose of training in hydrographic science and in unmanned maritime systems

Tuskegee University

  • Responsible for educational opportunities involving the formal training and experiential learning of novel autonomous technologies
  • Of the 43 undergraduate degree programs offered at Tuskegee, OECI focuses on five for participation. These include Mechanical Engineering, Biology, and Environmental, Natural Resource and Plant Sciences
  • Member of the Alabama Marine Environmental Sciences Consortium at Dauphin Island Sea Lab to provide supplemental degree-related courses to fulfill the Biology degree requirements
  • Students completing the Environmental Science Option in the Environmental, Natural Resource and Plant Sciences complete an internship that applies coursework to practical career opportunities
  • Through its Elementary Education and General Science Education degrees, Tuskegee reaches out to the underserved population of the rural Black Belt of central Alabama
