Faculty Training and Consultations
The primary goal of URI’s Office of Online Education is the development of high quality blended and online courses. To that end, our office works with faculty, where we offer consultation, training and support to aid in the design and delivery of online materials in Sakai. We currently offer 3 training courses to aid in your development as an online instructor. The first, Basic Sakai Training, acquaints you with Sakai, URI’s LMS, and gives you the technical know-how and pedagogical reasoning to navigate and set up a basic course site. We then offer a Pedagogical Training course which takes place asynchronously online. The course focuses on best practices of online teaching, writing learning outcomes and creating an effective syllabus, assessing learning, design decisions, Quality Matters, and building content. Lastly, Accessibility Training familiarizes you with a basic understanding of ADA and ensures that you are designing your course with accessibility in mind. For more information and access to these trainings, please visit our Faculty Training page.
Of course there are many steps in between all of the training mentioned above. We are here to help with those as well. One-on-one consultations are a great way to brainstorm ideas, focus on specific issues, and deepen understanding. To set up a one-on-one consultation please contact Joannah Portman-Daley at firstname.lastname@example.org.
