M.S. in Healthcare Management (Online)

Admission

The M.S. in Healthcare program is open to students of all educational backgrounds. A four-year college degree is required and prior work experience is highly encouraged. Courses are offered in 7-week sessions, with two sessions in each semester (Spring, Summer, Fall). You can start the program in any session. See below for upcoming session deadlines.

Application Requirements

  • Statement of purpose:
    • Discuss your interest in and motivation for pursuing healthcare management graduate education, as well as any experience you have working in healthcare. (Required, 250 words or less)
    • Describe how URI’s healthcare management program fits into your professional aspirations and how it will help you achieve your career goals. Why URI? (Required, 250 words or less)
    • URI healthcare management students can expect to spend up to 15-20 hours per week completing academic coursework. Specific weekly time requirements depend upon the nature of the subject being covered, your background and familiarity with course content, and your learning capabilities, among other factors. Please describe your willingness and ability to commit to up to 15-20 hours of academic study per week. (Required, 150 words or less)
  • College transcripts from all institutions attended (international applicants must show equivalency to a U.S. bachelor’s degree by an evaluation from WES or other translation company).Official paper transcripts: Sent to: BusinessCAS Transcript Processing Center, PO Box 9221, Watertown, MA 02471
  • Unofficial electronic transcripts can be uploaded
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Resume
  • Official score report for the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or GRE taken within the last five years. Please note: Prospective students should take the GMAT or GRE at least two weeks prior to the application deadline. Eligible students can waive the GMAT, through the waiver program.
  • If English is not your native language, you’ll need to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores (taken within the last two years). A minimum score of 91 for TOEFL under the new IBT-Internet Based Test or 575 under the paper-based testing, and a minimum score of 6.5 on the IELTS is required. The URI Designated Institution Code for TOEFL is 3919. Because students participating in URI Online programs are not required to physically study on campus in the United States, enrollment in a URI online program does not qualify for an F-1 visa.

GMAT/GRE Application Requirement Waiver

The GMAT/GRE requirement may be waived for applicants who meet one of several criteria:

  • Five or more years of full-time relevant professional work experience
  • URI graduate (any major) with a minimum 3.50 overall GPA
  • Graduate from an AACSB accredited undergraduate business program with a minimum 3.50 GPA
  • Must be accounting major for M.S. Accounting program
  • Hold a Masters or Ph.D. degree (any discipline)
  • Licensed as a Certified Public Accountant
  • Licensed as a Certified Financial Planner
  • Passed Level II of the CFA Program
