Curriculum

The Evening MBA Program consists of 14 three-credit courses for a total of 42 credits.

Required Courses

ECN590: Principles of Economics

(3 crs.) Survey of micro- and macroeconomic theory. (Lec. 3) Pre: graduate standing in accounting, labor and industrial relations, or M.B.A. program.

MBA500: Statistical Methods for Management

(3 crs.) Introductory statistical methods applied to business problems. Topics include descriptive statistics, probability, distributions, inference, regression analysis, chi-square analysis, and introduction to time series. 

MBA502: Organizational Behavior

(3 crs,) Examination of the theory, research, and practice of organizational behavior in work settings, focusing on individual, interpersonal, group, and organizational factors influence work-relevant attitudes and behaviors.

MBA503: Financial Accounting

(3 crs.) Covers basic accounting principles, accounting systems design, and financial reporting issues. Focusing on financial statement analysis techniques necessary to accurately assess a company’s financial position and results of operations.

MBA504: Financial Management

(3 crs.) Functions and responsibilities of financial managers. Examination of: financial statement analysis, cost of capital, capital structure, valuation, markets, capital budgeting, working capital, mergers, bankruptcy, multinational finance.

MBA505: Managerial Marketing

(3 crs.) Analysis of marketing problems and determination of marketing policies in product development, promotion, pricing, channel selection; legal aspects.

MBA560: Operations and Supply Chain Management

(3 crs.) The management of manufacturing and service operations. Topics include flow processes, inventories, scheduling, capacity, and operations strategy. 

MBA565: Strategic Management

(3 crs.) Integration of functional areas of business through case studies and simulation-based explorations of management problems, and the evaluation of alternative solutions. Discussion of the competitive, social and environmental challenges of domestic and multinational firms.

Electives

Pharm.D. classes can be used for the 4 of the 6 elective courses in the MBA program. The two additional electives are selected in consultation with the MBA Program Coordinator.

MBA Course Waivers

ECN 590 and MBA 500 may be waived for students with applicable coursework. You must have completed two approved undergraduate courses (minimum grade B in each class) for each course taken within five years of when you matriculate. Courses are approved by the College of Business. AP credits cannot count towards waivers.

Complete a Pharm.D. and MBA in 6 years with as few as 8 additional courses

After Pharm.D. courses and electives are considered, and eligible waivers are applied, you may be able to graduate with a Pharm.D. and an MBA with as few as 8 additional courses.

Time/Location

The Evening MBA programs are held at the URI Feinstein Providence Campus, 80 Washington Street, Providence. In the Evening MBA program, Fall and spring semester classes meet one night per week typically from 6-8:45pm. Summer courses meet at night– but there are two terms, with classes meeting twice a week for five weeks.
