Rental Vehicle Insurance
Travelers should obtain the necessary insurance coverage to limit the University from liability. A collision damage waiver is included in the Enterprise/National corporate rates. Car rental collision or personal injury insurance is not reimbursable. Additional information on insurance coverage can be found on URI Risk Management Office website, including a full rental vehicle policy and auto rental insurance form which should be completed at least four business days prior to the start of the rental.
International Travel Insurance
International travel insurance provides medical insurance and evacuation coverage for URI members traveling outside the United States, and coverage to international guests coming to study or work at the University. The coverage is comprehensive and mandatory for all URI members traveling internationally. Students, faculty, and staff may enroll through the URI Risk Management Office.
If traveling to Afghanistan, Algeria, Cuba, Egypt, Iraq, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Somalia, Sudan, Syria or Yemen, you must obtain prior approval. Please contact the URI Risk Management Office Manager for the approval process. Please read federal travel requirements prior to registering for travel to Cuba.
Foreign Liability
The University provides general liability coverage to students, faculty and staff while working or studying on URI authorized travel to foreign countries. Coverage includes defense costs and payment of claims resulting from injuries to persons or damage to property of others that arise from URI students, faculty, and staff while conducting study, research, employment or any other URI sponsored events in foreign countries.
