Scientific Name: Rhamnus purshiana The dried bark of cascara has been used for centuries as an herbal laxative first by Native Americans in the Pacific Northwest, and then later by European/U.S. colonizers.

Scientific Name: Dianthus caraphyllus Clove-scented flowers were once used to flavor ales and wines, especially celebration cups at coronations, hence its name “carnation”.

Blue Wild Indigo

Scientific Name: Baptisia australis Wild Blue Indigo was used by the Cherokees as a source of blue dye. The roots have purgative properties, and may also alleviate nausea and toothaches.
