ATC Statement Regarding a People-Centered and Inclusive Community

We commit to intentional engagement in social justice, equity, and inclusion within the testing center. In doing so, we continuously reflect on our processes and approaches and seek to dismantle systemic barriers within the Academic Testing Center that may disproportionately impact underrepresented students, staff, and faculty.  At all times, neurodiversity and disability will be embraced as natural human variations that are vital to a dynamic community.

As such, the ATC welcomes all faculty approved submissions for DAI exam accommodations, excused absences, and culturally inclusive and/or trauma informed assessments.

The majority of our staff are Mental Health First Aid certified and the ATC is designated as a URI SafeZone by the Gender and Sexuality Center. ATC leadership acknowledges that achieving people-centered and inclusive community requires complex conversations, difficult dialogues, and the ongoing professional development of all staff.

University of Rhode Island Land Acknowledgment

The University of Rhode Island occupies the traditional stomping ground of the Narragansett Nation and the Niantic People. We honor and respect the enduring and continuing relationship between the Indigenous people and this land by teaching and learning more about their history and present-day communities, and by becoming stewards of the land we, too, inhabit.
