Students shine in collaborations and competitions

Professor David Mitchell has spearheaded CBA experiential learning collaborations with Rhode Island small businesses and non-profits, with a focus on developing marketing solutions and student skills.

Since 2013, more than 109 students organized in 28 student teams have participated in Independent Studies-Directed Work Experiences.

CBA students in every major have been recruited, mentored, and evaluated for their work within the business community. These projects are structured with an academic foundation and an experiential focus developed around the Marketing Planning Model.

URI’s American Marketing Association (AMA) Chapter ranked among the top contenders at this year’s International Collegiate Conference. Chapter President Shelby Olivier along with representatives from three other universities presented on AMA membership and recruitment strategies.

“We had an amazing year and students are rightfully proud,” said Mitchell, who along with Professor Hillary Leonard, advises the AMA. This year’s National Case Competition submission received Honorable Mention, placing 40 out of 240 universities, a result of many hours of work by the AMA Student Board and the 50+ members.

Congratulations go to Katherine Delaney and Elizabeth Rogers who placed 8 out of 98 universities in the Marketing Strategy Competition. Our URI student chapter was proudly recognized for exemplary performance in both Chapter Planning and Chapter Membership.
