Faculty research a plus for the R.I. economy
Professor Yuwen Chen’s research has definitely made a difference in the Ocean State’s economy. His port demand joint research in short-sea shipping helped the Rhode Island’s Port of Davisville to be awarded a $22.3 million grant from the federal Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) program.
His research interests arose from observing the changes in the business environment and how business entities react to these changes. His early research focused on the firm’s optimal product design, offering strategies in the area of multifunction products that proliferated in recent years and changed the marketplace.
Professor Chen is currently working on joint marketing and operations research that analyzes the firm’s optimal product positioning and pricing strategy when the product shows dual attributes (hedonic and utilitarian). He currently also advises a doctoral student on a research topic of platform selection and product development for application developers.
