Ice Hockey: Women’s

Founded in 1999, the URI Women’s Ice Hockey team competes in Division 1 of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and is a member of the Eastern Collegiate Women’s Hockey League (ECWHL). URI has won the ECWHL conference championship 9 times in the 15 year history of the league and has made 12 appearances at the ACHA national championships since 2004.

How many athletes do you anticipate adding after tryouts?

  • 10-15

How often does your team practice?

  • We practice four to five times per week.

Where does your team practice/play/compete?

  • We practice and play home games in the Boss Ice Arena. For away games, we compete against teams across the country.

How far does your team travel for competitions?

  • We travel to Missouri, Colorado, Michigan, and Indiana. There are teams in our conference from Arizona, North Dakota, Ohio, and the East Coast.

Who does your team compete against?

  • We compete against teams in the ACHA women’s D1 and D2 leagues as well as NCAA D3 teams.

How do athletes get to games?

  • Athletes will take cars, buses, or planes to games

Does your team collect dues? If so, how much?

  • Yes. Our annual dues are $2,500 per player. We encourage individuals to pay their dues in full; however, we also offer payment plans.

Aside from practices and competitions, what other commitments are expected from members of the team?

  • Outside of competitions, we host fundraising events to help with team costs.

Is prior experience needed to join your team?

  • Prior experience is recommended. Our program has an intense and competitive schedule.

  • We start in early September and end in March
