Whether you’re cruising around campus or exploring beyond it, our free bike program for students makes it easy to get moving with confidence. The on-campus path connects directly to the William C. O’Neill (South County) Bike Path, giving you a scenic route from the Kingston Campus to Kingston Station, Peace Dale, Wakefield, and even Narragansett.

RhodyBIKES Information
All bikes can be reserved up to one day in advance and are on a first come first serve basis. Rentals are FREE for all current matriculating (paying Student Activity Fee) URI students. Bikes can be picked up and returned at the Mackal Field House and must be returned the same day by the designated return time. Each rental includes the bike, a helmet, and a u-lock. Riders are expected to return bikes and equipment in good condition, as damage or late returns may result in suspension of privileges or a fee. Helmets are required while riding on campus or public roads, and all users are expected to follow bike path and traffic regulations. How to Reserve a Bike
- To reserve a bike, call (401) 874-5926 or visit the Customer Service Center at Mackal Field House during operating hours.
- Bike reservations start one hour after the facility opens, and for safety reasons, all bikes must be returned before dark, with return times varying seasonally based on daylight hours.
- A waiver must be signed at the time of your first bike reservation and is valid for one year.
- A key will be provided to unlock the U-lock that is attached to the bike.
- A Campus Recreation employee will complete a physical bike inspection, review safety requirements and program policies, and assist with adjusting the bike to ensure a proper fit, prior to leaving.
- You will also be required to provide a signature for each ride, confirming that you agree to follow all program policies and traffic laws.
Returning Your Bike
- Return the bike to the front of Mackal Field House and lock it securely to the bike rack located near the main entrance.
- Use the provided U-lock attached to the bike to secure it before returning the key to the Customer Service Center.
- A Campus Recreation employee will complete a post-ride inspection to ensure the bike and equipment are in proper condition.
Note: Bikes returned late or with damage may result in temporary suspension of bike privileges in accordance with program policies.
Program Policies & Regulations
- All currently enrolled, fee-paying URI students are eligible to check out a bike.
- A waiver of liability and acknowledgment of the Bike Share Policies must be signed in person at the Mackal Field House Customer Service Center before your first checkout.
- Waivers remain valid for one academic year from the date of signing.
Rental Conditions
- Rentals are free of charge for eligible students.
- Bikes are available on a first-come, first-served basis and may be reserved up to one day in advance.
- Each rental includes a bike, helmet, and U-lock.
- Bikes must be returned the same day, before dusk or at least one hour before Mackal Field House closes (whichever comes first).
- Late returns, missing equipment, or damage may result in suspension of privileges or a repair fee.
Use & Conduct
- Riders must comply with all university, municipal, and state traffic laws.
- Bikes are for individual recreational or commuter use only and may not be used for commercial or group activities.
- Riders are expected to treat bikes and equipment responsibly and report any maintenance issues upon return.
- Campus Recreation reserves the right to deny or suspend access for misuse or repeated violations of program policies.
