The URI Chinese Culture Club would like to call its members to join the state-wide “Rhode Island Chinese-American Anti-Covid-19 Task Force” to help combat and prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in our state.

It is imperative at this time for all of us to do our part by staying home, limiting social gatherings and only going out for essential purposes. Social distancing will not only protect our self but also flatten the curve of infection rates in the United States.

However, there are those who do not have the luxury of social distancing, those who tirelessly go to work daily to protect us from the spread of Covid-19. These heroes lack the proper resources to treat our family, friends, neighbors and other fellow Rhode Islanders. Medical providers, first responders, law enforcement etc., are risking the health of themselves and their families to help those in need.

As of April 7, 2020, our Club has raised over $12,000 and spent all the funds purchasing face masks and donating them to local medical facilities and communities, which include

• Lifespan
• South County Hospital
• Thundermist Health Center
• Johnny Cake Center
• South Kingstown Police Department
• URI Health Center and on-campus Emergency Medical Service (EMS)
• URI Food Service and Maintenance Staff
