Reception to Welcome New Faculty
There will be a reception in URI Multicultural Center at 7pm this Saturday (September 15, 2012) to welcome new Chinese faculty members to join our Club and to celebrate the start of a new semester. During the reception, Professor Yinsheng Wan will deliver a guest speech titled:
“How to contribute and give back to the society as a Chinese American Citizen”
All Club members, parents and students are welcome to attend. Refreshments and fruits will be served.
About Professor Yinsheng Wan:
Dr. Wan is a professor at Providence College specializing in Effects of Ultraviolet (UV) Radiation on Skin Aging and Skin Cancer. Besides being a full time faculty of Providence College, Professor Wan spends a great amount of time serving the community. He serves as board member of RIACA (Rhode Island Association of Chinese Americans), co-chair of RIACA high school scholarship committee, president of RI Association of Chinese American Professors, and active member of Chinese Church. Together with his sons and his wife, his family offers Chinese foods to serve hundreds of homeless people in Rhode Island on regular bases several times a year. As one homeless person puts it: “Chinese food is delicious, Chinese people are kind and nice!” He travels around world including Asia and Africa to help people in need. Using his words .We have been successful in our career, what can we do to give back to the society and help people in need in Rhode Island, USA, and the entire world? I cannot do much as one person, but together as a Chinese community, we can make a difference.
