Scientists continue to learn how plastic waste and dangerous chemicals make their way into the ocean environment and harm marine life. What and how are we learning about these issues? Where does this pollution come from? Where does it go? Join Coastal Resources Center director and GSO professor J.P. Walsh and GSO professor Rainer Lohmann as they discuss the dangers posed by marine pollution and “forever chemicals” called PFAS, and what we need to do to address them.

RHODY OUTPOST UPDATE: The January OLLI collection for the Rhody Outpost will focus on white paper products, cleaning supplies, and staple pantry items.

  • Paper products (always needed) – toilet paper, paper towels, and tissue

  • Liquid hand soap and liquid dish soap (for hand washing, not dishwashers)

  • Foods – White rice  and cooking oil

  • Personal – hand lotion, lip balm

OLLI MEMBERS INVITED TO JOIN IN THE FUN!

OLLI at Chico State is hosting its third annual, online play festival and is once again inviting OLLI actors from across the Osher network. Last year, eight non-Chico members auditioned and won parts in four, one-act comedies. Auditions, rehearsals, and final (taped) performances are all managed via Zoom. No acting experience is required. Auditions will be held online January 30-31. For more information and electronic copies of the scripts, contact Pam Loyd at pamloyd@icloud.com. Join in the fun! 

TOWN OF SOUTH KINGSTOWN 300TH ANNIVERSARY LECTURE SERIES

FREE lectures will be held each month at the South Kingstown High School at 7:00pm. The first lecture is Tuesday, January 24.  Loren Spears, Executive Director, Tomaquag Museum, will present “Kumagooaunash Numanutoom, All Creator’s Gifts”. Registration is not required.
