CLOSED CLASSES: Click to view the list of closed classes. Please add your name to the Wait List for any classes you are interested in. There are always cancellations before the start of classes, and if that happens, we will call and register you over the phone. In some cases, we may be able to add additional seats to a class or ask the instructor to add another session. So, make sure to add your name to the wait list so you don’t miss out on the classes you want to take!

NEW FALL CLASSES COMING SOON:  We have 8 to 10 additional classes for fall that we will be introducing in the next few weeks. Keep an eye on your email and look for flyers in the classroom once our semester starts on September 11.

REMINDER: If you register for a free class, please let us know if you are unable to attend. We have wait lists for many of our classes and we want to make sure if there are spaces available we can get other members in the class. 

THE OLLI REFUND POLICY requires that you notify the OLLI office at least two weeks before the start of the class in order to receive a full refund or credit. Day trips and special tours are prepaid so there are no refunds for cancellation or withdrawal. No shows forfeit their class fees.

OLLI TRAVEL – Join us at OLLI on Wednesday, August 30, at 10:00AM for a preview of two upcoming trips. Sit back and learn more about Shades of Ireland (March 9-18, 2024) and Classical Greece (April 21-May 1, 2024). COFFEE DONATIONS NEEDED: We are in need of ground coffee and keurig pods. Donations can be dropped off in the OLLI office.

RHODY OUTPOST– URI students will be back on campus in the next few weeks. The Fall theme is Back to School. Donation requests include Peanut Butter, Jelly, Pasta, White Rice and Ramen Noodles. Donations can be dropped off in the OLLI office. Please note that expired goods or any food item that is not in its original packaging will not be accepted.

OLLI NEW MEMBER WELCOME– Thursday, August 31, 11:00AM to 12PM. Are you new to OLLI @ URI? Are you returning after being gone awhile? Both current and new members are invited to attend and learn about all OLLI has to offer. We’ll review our current programs, and our special interest groups, all while exploring and becoming more familiar with our OLLI website and registration software. Plenty of time for Q & A. Coffee & refreshments too! Please join us and bring a friend along so they can see what we’re all about! Registration helpful but not required. 

PLUGGED INTO ENERGY SERIES: The eighth annual Plugged into Energy Research lecture series will feature three events and nine energy efficiency expert speakers from across the United States, including research analysts, policymakers, and faculty, who will discuss energy issues of local, regional, and national importance and are working to create a more resilient energy economy in Rhode Island. Hosted by the Rhode Island Energy Efficiency and Resource Management Council and URI Cooperative Extension, each lecture is free and open to the public. OLLI AT WVU (West Virginia University) INVITES YOU TO THE FOLLOWING ONLINE EVENT:

Banned Books and American Culture with Beth Jane Toren
WVU Interdisciplinary, Cultural, and Film Studies Librarian co-hosted by the WVU Committee of Retired Faculty    Wed., Sept. 6, 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. EST Click here to register. 

Sharing perspectives from parents, educators, authors, protestors, young readers, and judges, all illustrated with archival quotes, case citations, and photographs, Toren will place book banning in a historical context and reflect on current events. The 1974 Kanawha County West Virginia Textbook Controversy has a significant role as we approach the 50th anniversary. As a 1974 elementary school student who experienced the controversy first-hand, Toren presents the anniversary as an opportunity to reflect and seek peaceful and cooperative resolutions to current school and public library controversies.
